The Project

Pathological Anatomy at the Bugando Medical Center in Mwanza, Tanzania
Goals: 
  • Setup of the histopathology laboratory and renewal of equipment and technical furnishings
  • Training of local staff
  • Professional activity of Italian Pathologists at the Laboratory, on a monthly rotation, with educational, organizational and diagnostic support activities

What we have done

  • The Pathological Anatomy Laboratory has been equipped
  • Two doctors and three local laboratory technicians have been trained
  • The project led to the subsequent establishment of a Pathological Anatomy Department in the local Faculty of Medicine (2003) and the activation of the Oncology (2008) and Radiotherapy (2013) Units at the same hospital facility
